Sen s incisive articles on contemporary political situation
in West Bengal are a pointer to long suffering of this
hapless state which has become 'field of anarchic experiments'from
British days since 'Banga Bhanga'. It s interesting to
note that all the political parties who are in the helm
of affairs in present or in the past were crested in Bengal
but none other state suffered as much as Bengal suffered.
Are we slowly heading for a self destruction or cutural
genocide?! |

account of the crackdown on the Naxalites is quite dramatic,
it
sounds like those movies (Mr & Mrs Iyer) come to
life. I wonder to
what extent there is an ethnic component - the fact
that the base of
their actions is in tribal lands is presumably not coincidental.

Dear
Sumantra,
I am a regular reader of your newly published
e-mag which has a number of attractions and being bi-lingual
can have
a huge circle of readers.Among many I was fascinated
by the article by
Saonli Mitra, which was so ingenuous in its potential
and so sensitive
in its appeal. Being myself a dancer I can understaqnd
the kind of
wibing she talked about with the great artists in the
remotest part
of incredible India! But I have a great regret about
this article's
presentation, such faulty language and typographic mistakes
has taken
away half of its appeal. I was shocked at every point
as I
encountered unexpected mistakes and had a small jault
to get over and
move further to read the rest of it. I am sure had it
not been such an
enthralling article,I would have left it half way through.
It is a
great disgrace to the author herself who is a celibrity
of the first
rank in our state for since the work comes out in her
name, the
responsibility goes to her, but I can't believe that
be so. I think
you should be more careful about the editing and proof-reading
part of
your issues hence forth to avoid such calamities and
to ensure the
good quality of your literary endeavour which is otherwise
quite
commendable.
